Man Sentenced For Illegally Re-Entering U.S.
Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Aldegundo Gonzalez-Qurioz, 45, Watertown, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 30 months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States after deportation. Gonzalez-Qurioz pleaded guilty to this charge on August 31, 2011.
In sentencing the defendant, Judge Crabb noted that she took the defendant's claimed interest in returning to Mexico permanently with a grain of salt because he re-entered the United States illegally two previous times. Additionally, she was concerned that when he was in the United States, he committed drug and traffic crimes.
The charge against Gonzalez-Qurioz was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita Rumbelow.
